Music has the exceptional power to remove barriers, connect communities and inspire. Inspiring from this, Radio Udaan introduced Udaan Idol, India’s pioneering national singing competition for persons with disabilities. It serves as a platform to discover and celebrate the music talent . Udaan Idol empowers singers by providing them with opportunities to showcase their abilities before a national audience while promoting accessibility, inclusion and equal participation in the performing arts. Udaan Idol has turned into one of Radio Udaan’s flagship initiatives. More than a singing competition, it is a movement that celebrates resilience, determination, and artistic excellence, while proving that disability is never a limitation to talent.

The Vision Behind Udaan Idol
Every talented singer deserves an opportunity to be heard but unfortunately, many persons with disabilities continue to face barriers and hurdles in accessing mainstream platforms for artistic expression. Udaan Idol was established to bridge this gap by providing an inclusive national platform where talent alone becomes the defining criterion.
The competition aims to:
● Discover and promote extraordinary musical talent of persons with disabilities.
● Boost their confidence, creativity, and self-expression.
● Provide national recognition to aspiring singers.
● Create professional opportunities in the music and entertainment industry.
● Promote inclusion through the universal language of music.
From some past years, Udaan Idol has motivated participants from across India, bringing them together diverse voices united by their passion for music, approximately 1275 participants have been participated in the 4 seasons of Udaan Idol which highlights the foremost journey of Udaan Idol.
Format of Competition
Each season of Udaan Idol follows a structured and transparent selection process to ensure fairness while providing every participant with an opportunity to showcase their talent.
Auditions
The journey starts with a nationwide invitation to talented singers having disabilities. Applications are received from different parts of India, which reflects the diversity and richness of musical talent across the country.
Round One
Shortlisted contestants perform before the jury, where they checked on vocal quality, musicality, expression, confidence, and overall stage presence.
Round Two
Contestants advancing from the first round compete through another stage of performances. The judges evaluate their consistency, versatility, and artistic excellence before selecting the finalists.
Grand Finale
The finalists perform on a prestigious national platform before distinguished guests, eminent jury, and audiences. The Grand Finale shows not only exceptional musical performances but also the spirit of inclusion, determination, and equal opportunity.
The Journey of Udaan Idol
Season 4
Venue: Gurugram, Haryana (2024)
Season 4 marked an another significant milestone in the journey of Udaan Idol. With tremendous performances and growing participation from across the country, the competition further strengthened its identity as a national platform celebrating talent without barriers. The winner of this season is Ankita Patel who got cash prize of Rs 51000 -/ .
Since her victory, Ankita Patel has established her own music academy and continues to perform professionally, reflecting the lasting impact of Udaan Idol in creating meaningful career opportunities. The 1st runner up is Aniket Khandare who got cash prize of Rs 31000 -/ and the 2nd runner up is Siddhesh Patil who got cash prize of Rs 21000 -/ are running their profession beautifully.

Season 3
Venue: Panchkula, Haryana (2022)
Following a brief gap, Udaan Idol returned with renewed enthusiasm and a larger national footprint. Participants from across India competed with passion and musical excellence, reaffirming the competition’s reputation as a premier platform for inclusive talent. The winner of this season is Sagar Kapoor who got 51000 as cash prize. After winning Udaan Idol, Sagar Kapoor secured a government appointment as a Music Teacher, established his own musical band, and continues to perform professionally, inspiring countless aspiring artists. The 1st runner up of this season is Om Prakash who also got 31000 as cash prize and 2nd runner up is Aftab Thakur who got Rs 21000.

SEASON 2
Venue: Mumbai, Maharashtra (2018–19)
Building on the success of the inaugural edition, Radio Udaan introduced the Little Champs edition which is dedicated to children with disabilities. The season showcased exclusively young talent and reaffirmed the importance of nurturing artistic abilities from an early age. The Winner of this season is Sanika Sunil Patil . The 1st runner up is Pratik Saraf and the 2nd runner up is Bani Chawla.

SEASON 1
Venue: Panchkula, Haryana (2017–18)
The inaugural season started with the foundation for what would become one of India’s most inspiring inclusive music platforms. Bringing together talented singers with disabilities from different parts of the country, Season 1 showcases that determination and talent can overcome every barrier.
The Winner of Season 1 is Muskan Thakur . The 1st runner up is Following her victory, Muskan Thakur received an opportunity to perform live in the United States, highlighting the transformative impact that Udaan Idol can have on participants’ careers. The 1st runner up is Dhiraj Borkar and 2nd runner up is Sarika Shinde .

Creating Lasting Impact
The real success of Udaan Idol is measured not by the titles won but by the lives transformed. Several participants have gone on to establish successful careers in music after participating in the competition.
Among these inspiring success stories are:

Season 5: The Journey Continues
The fifth edition of Udaan Idol marks another exciting chapter in this inspiring journey. Receiving an overwhelming response from across India, Season 5 has attracted 210 entries, showing the growing popularity and credibility of the competition. Following the audition process, 15 outstanding finalists have been shortlisted to compete in the Grand Finale, which is scheduled to be held in Pathankot, Punjab.
The winners will receive:
● First Prize: ₹75,000
● Second Prize: ₹50,000
● Third Prize: ₹25,000
In addition, every finalist will receive a participation honorarium in recognition of their talent and commitment. As Season 5 progresses through its various stages, Radio Udaan continues to reaffirm its commitment to creating equal opportunities for talented singers with disabilities and providing them with a national platform to pursue excellence.
